METROPOLIS LABORATORY 2008 [Copenhagen] MAP OFFICE is invited to present their research ‘Underneath’ – new urban fields under the structure of the structure of Guangzhou’s superhighway ring.

THINKING METROPOLIS IV: The City as Stage and The Stage as City continued (June 26th 27th & 28th)
30-35 specialists are invited to present and/or to conduct master classes and break out sessions over the 3 days. Each day starts with a plenary session with three main speakers, followed by two 1½ - hour sessions where participants can select between three themes. The evening will be allocated to informal activities, films etc.

There will be 3 overall themes for the seminar:
June 26th: Creative urban processes of restructuring, reforming and reconfiguration.
June 27th: The role of temporary spaces, routes and pathways plus mobile structures, events and works in the city, looking at practice and experiences of this form of intervention.
June 28th: The potential of creative use of new media and new technology in connection with “real” space and place.

This seminar will be open for the public, aiming at professionals and students in the fields of the arts, architecture and urban design, cultural planning and action, social sciences, creative industries and city management. We expect around 150 participants.

A series of 15-20 five-days workshops where individual artists, architects and mixed partnerships will reflect on themes and interact with the city of Copenhagen. There will also be a series of open workshops with performing artists, multimedia and visual artists and architects. Both types will be to develop ideas and possible projects for the Metropolis Biennale in 2009.

The Laboratory will take place in a spectacular harbour setting, at Kulturkajen Docken in Nordhavnen (the Northern harbour of Copenhagen, www.nordhavnen.dk)
