POST-IT CITY

The concept of POST-IT CITY was coined by Giovanni la Varra ("Post-it City: the other European public spaces", Mutations, 2001) to designate different temporary occupations of public space. Adopting this idea, the project Occasional Cities investigates the ways by which subjectivity takes control of public space, through small “para-architectural” devices, for all sorts of temporary activities (commercial, sexual, leisure...). These devices cause to be designed occasional micro-cities, which could explain more fully than ordinary architecture the needs and subjective imaginary of the individuals who construct the reality of the contemporary city. Different cities worldwide are currently participating in this investigation.
