027 - 20|11|07 MAP office [Gutierrez + Portefaix] “The vagabond ignores fixed boundaries.” Anthony Vidler Constricted in a room, our installation can do nothing but interact with the room. The walls, ceiling and the floor are our new horizon. They absorb Hong Kong from outside in. The room becomes Hong Kong. With this exhibition, we want to extend the way we look at our space, both domestic and urban. Hong Kong is your museum. Please feel at home. Is there a perfect museum? Is there a perfect home? This Hong Kong is transformed into a room you can live in for a while; our home as a perfect landscape. A deliberate shift and change of scale; our room is a new territory for you to survey. You walk through the doorway and enter a domestic landscape with: two mountain bookshelves, three island sofas, one island bed, one island table, a jungle, and a park. In Hong Kong, architecture is a play of partial objects. In the room, the construction of furniture proposes a new domesticity. Therefore, contemporary homelessness is reversed into ‘home is everywhere-ness’. We have already extended our territory, so now we can extend our home as well. In fact, we cannot separate the two. Our living space functions as a site for production and exhibition; and Hong Kong is our museum.
